PNG is perfect for graphics, but a photo saved as PNG can be five to ten times larger than it needs to be. Converting it to JPG is the quickest way to get a file small enough for email, upload limits and fast web pages.
How to convert PNG to JPG
- Click Select PNG files or drag them onto the box above. You can add as many as you like.
- Check that the target says JPG. Click the slider icon next to a file to change its options.
- Press Convert. Each file shows its own progress, and the work happens on your device.
- Download files one by one, or use Download all (ZIP). Press Convert more to start a new batch.
Use the width option to resize at the same time: a 4000 px photo scaled to 2000 px is a quarter of the pixels and looks the same on most screens.
PNG vs JPG
What is PNG?
PNG compresses losslessly and supports transparency. That makes it ideal for logos, diagrams and screenshots, and wasteful for camera photos, where lossless compression cannot do much with natural noise. More about the PNG format.
What is JPG?
JPG uses lossy DCT compression tuned for photographs. At sensible quality settings it discards detail the eye barely notices and produces files a fraction of the PNG’s size. More about the JPG format.
| PNG | JPG | |

| Full name | Portable Network Graphics | JPEG image |
| Extensions | .png | .jpg, .jpeg, .jfif, .jpe |
| MIME type | image/png | image/jpeg |
When to convert PNG to JPG
- An upload form rejects your image because it is over a size limit such as 2 MB or 5 MB.
- You are attaching many photos to an email.
- A photo exported from an editor or phone was saved as PNG by default.
- You want faster-loading images on a blog or online shop.
Quality and settings
For photos, quality 80–85 usually cuts the size by 70–90% with no visible change. Screenshots containing small text are the exception: JPG can create halos around letters, so keep those as PNG or use quality 92+. Transparent areas are filled with the background colour you pick (white by default), so check logos before converting them.
